| The
Wattsburg Hose Company is always looking for new members. Whether
you are a long time veteran of the Fire service, or looking to enter at
the ground floor, you are welcome to apply for membership. Here,
we can answer most of your questions about what it is all about.
Training: All
provided to you free of charge. If the training is within our
scope of practice, we pay for it. Its that simple. We
receive grants and donations to pay for training. We only ask that
you complete the class, and agree to serve a commitment with us.
We train with other fire departments, so that in emergencies we know how
to work with each other. At the bottom of the page are some
pictures of us in training, including ladder training with the Corry
Fire Department's ladder truck.
Additionally, the
training we provide is all Pennsylvania certified. If we train you
to be an EMT, rest assured, you are receiving the highest quality
around. You can take these skills and use them at a paid EMS
service. Some of our members do this. Also, we train to the
same standards as paid departments. There used to be a difference
in professional (paid) departments and volunteer. No more.
We are professionals, we just don't get paid.
Time: We
drill every Wednesday evening for two hours. Can't make it?
We also have day drills, every Wednesday, from 9AM to 11AM specifically
for our members who cannot attend evening drill due to work, family, or
other commitments. Additionally, we request that you respond on
some of our emergencies. We will give you a pager, which will
sound whenever we have a call. We don't request or expect you to
make every single call, just when you are available.
Cost: Three
dollars a year for over 18, two dollars a year for ages 14-17.
What's the catch?
There isn't one. We'll train you for free. We won't force
you to take any training. What training you take is decided by
you, but will dictate what you can do. Want to fight fire?
Want to become an EMT? Want to be a Fire Police Officer? How about
saving boaters and swimmers? Rescuing people from cliffs?
Cut cars apart to free trapped people? You can, we'll teach you
how.
Benefits:
While we can't afford to pay you, you will get the satisfaction of
helping Your neighbors. If you live in Wattsburg Boro,
Amity Township, or Venango Township, you will be directly serving your
friends and neighbors. If you live in the surrounding areas, we
frequently assist on mutual aid calls into Greene Township, Greenfield
Township, Waterford, Union Township, Union City, Elgin Beaverdam, and
New York.
