Station 17 was dispatched to Jamestown St at Raun St for a Motor Vehicle
Accident, reported as one vehicle rolled-over. 176, 172, 178, and
EmergyCare Medic 194 responded. 176 arrived onscene, and 183 assumed
command. 183 reported one vehicle into a tree, with very heavy front end
damage, one patient entrapped in the vehicle, Class 2 with trauma. 183
requested LifeStar, along with Rescue 1147 from Union City, to be on
standby. 172 arrived onscene and a Wattsburg EMT entered the vehicle
through the sunroof to gain access. Crews from Wattsburg then began to
stabilize the vehicle using cribbing to prevent the vehicle from moving
from the tree it was on top of. Union City was then requested to respond
to the scene, and responded with Rescue 1147 and Squad 1138.
183 initially stood down LifeStar
after a further patient assessment was performed. The patient's
condition began to worsen, and LifeStar was again requested to launch
for a scene response. Squad 178 responded from the scene to the Erie
County Fairgrounds to set up the landing zone. Engine 177 responded from
quarters to assist 178.
Crews from 172 and 1147 extricated the
patient using Hurst Tools from both departments. The extrication took 36
minutes from the time of dispatch, which is excellent considering the
damage to the vehicle. 176 and Medic 194
transported the patient to the Erie County Fairgrounds to rendezvous
with the helicopter. LifeStar transported the patient to Hamot Shock
Trauma.
